My first experience with it was a good 8 or so years ago when I just wanted to lose weight as fast as possible.
I told myself if I could just push through by skipping meals, cutting carbs, and ignore how drained I felt I’d finally be “back to myself.”
And guess what?
It “worked” at first.
The scale dropped. People noticed. But behind the scenes, I was tired, moody, and guilty because I felt like focusing on my health meant I was taking something away from my relationship at the time.
So I told myself I needed more discipline.
A stricter plan.
More sacrifice.
And once again, short-term success… followed by another crash.
This cycle repeated for years.
Every time, I thought I was doing something new, but really it was just the same extreme, all-or-nothing method with a different name.
And every time, I ended up right back where I started—exhausted, frustrated, and feeling guilty for even wanting something for myself.
What changed everything was realizing that the “White Knuckle Diet” wasn’t the problem.
It was my belief that health had to come at the expense of everything else in my life.
Breaking up with that approach was tough.
But once I let it go, I discovered something better: a plan that actually fit my lifestyle.
One that let me lose weight, keep it off, and actually feel good without all the guilt.
